Do You Need a License to Drive a Scooter in Florida?
Florida residents who wish to operate a scooter should be aware of Florida scooter laws. In addition to obtaining the proper license, scooter drivers in Florida should also follow the rules of the road, which apply to all vehicles.

The CC Factor
-
You have to be at least 16 to operate a scooter. Any resident of Florida who wishes to operate a scooter with a 50cc engine or smaller must first obtain a Class E license or higher. Residents of Florida must be at least 16 to get a Class E license. Scooters that have an engine greater than 50cc are considered motorcycles in Florida and require all riders to have a motorcycle-only license or a motorcycle endorsement on their license to operate.
Out of State
-
New residents will be required to take a vision exam. Anyone who relocates to Florida and already has a Class E driver's license or higher must transfer that license at the Florida DMV for an official Florida Class E license in order to ride a scooter. Although the new resident will not have to take a rules-of-the-road test, she will be required to pass a hearing and vision exam.

Age Factors
-
If you are under 18 but married, parental consent isn't needed. Any Florida resident under the age of 18 must have parental consent before obtaining a Class E scooter license. Only one parent, or legal guardian, is required to give consent. If a resident is under 18 but married, parental or guardian consent is not needed. Minors who hold a Class E license are not allowed to ride their scooters between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. unless they are driving to or from work.
