How to Wash Gore-Tex Fabric Clothes
You forked over the money for that new waterproof Gore-Tex jacket. It sheltered you in the rain. It protected you from that bitter wind. You poured your energy and sweat into that jacket. Now clean it the right way to keep that waterproofing intact.

Function
-
Gore-Tex provides a waterproof, windproof barrier with its layering of three different fabrics. The combination works with tiny pores that allow your skin to breathe but prevents even the smallest drops of water from penetrating. As the sweat clogs the Gore-Tex's small pores, the breathability of the fabric declines.
Washing Instructions
-
Wash Gore-Tex apparel in warm water. Do not use water hotter than 104 degree Fahrenheit. Standard laundry detergent, powder or liquid, works well and will not harm the fabric. If your washing machine comes with a second rinse function, use that setting. If not, reset your washer to rinse after the first run through is complete. Excess detergent clogs the pores and prevents the fabric from breathing. Do not use bleach or fabric softener.

Drying
-
Gore-Tex tolerates a dryer on the low setting. Do not use any dryer sheets or fabric softeners while the Gore-Tex is in the dryer. The low heat helps reactivate the water-repelling features designed in the fabric. If necessary, an iron on low heat can be used to remove wrinkles. Use a dish towel or T-shirt between the face of the iron and the Gore-Tex fabric and keep the iron on the low heat setting.
