Job Safety Analysis for Welding

Welders operate machinery and tools that use heat to join metals and related materials. Safety is of utmost importance in welding-related jobs; welding can be a dangerous profession if the proper precautions are not taken.

  1. Face Guards

    • Because welding equipment often creates flames and sparks, most welders are required to wear protective helmets with clear masks used to shield the face. Even welders who operate lower-temperature equipment, such as brazen or soldering workers, must keep their eyes protected from extreme heat and fragments.

    Clothing

    • Depending on the job, welders have to wear different degrees of protective clothing. It may be an entire flame-resistant outfit or just a vest. Welders tend to wear long-sleeved shirts and protective shoes.

    Ventilation

    • Welders sometimes work in enclosed areas; they must ensure that ventilation is sufficient and that items in the vicinity are not flammable. Welders must also be aware of other people within their workspace and take precautions to ensure that they are out of harm’s way.
