Zucchini plants are susceptible to a number of insect pests and plant diseases. Pests that commonly cause problems in zucchini include spider mites, whiteflies and aphids. Because zucchini is a squash, it is also susceptible to squash vine borers.
Common diseases of zucchini plants include bacterial wilt, viruses and both powdery and downy mildew.

Detecting problems early may help save the plants. Most insect pests can be eliminated by the use of commercial plant insecticide sprays. Use sprays according to instructions on packaging. Diseases can be more complicated to get rid of. Most plants infected with bacterial wilt should be destroyed to prevent disease spread.

Water zucchini plants well as problems may arise from inadequate moisture. These plants should never be permitted to dry out completely.
