JPEG images aren't limited to the same colors as GIF images.

Computer users interested in adding animation to digital presentations or websites have a variety of options including Flash, GIF animation and Java. GIF format animation uses many images with small differences cycled in succession creating the illusion of movement.

  1. Definition

    • The image-based graphical interchange format file (GIF) creates images with up to 256 colors. Editing and text capability makes this image format a choice for web graphics. The echo command function is a programming tool used for displaying HTML parameters and messages.

    Function

    • Turning on command-echoing by typing "echo on" while writing source code turns on the command prompt for accessing data. Turning off command-echoing by typing "echo off" hides lines of code and the echo command prompt. Large GIF animations use many lines of programming code. Lengthy code is easy to become lost in so echoing a line makes it disappear until turning command-echoing back on.

    Use

    • Websites might use GIF animation for showing small images in motion for aesthetic value or navigation buttons. Limited to 256-colors, GIF animation works well with simpler images.
