Specifications for a Citizenship Photograph
A photograph is an essential piece of the U.S. citizen application process. The requirements for an acceptable citizenship photograph are specific and you must follow them carefully. The requirements are identical to those for a passport photograph.

Basic Requirements

A citizenship photograph must be a color photograph that measures 2 inches by 2 inches square. It may not be in black and white. It must be taken with a plain background that is either plain white or off-white. The photograph must not be retouched or altered in any way.
Face

A citizenship photograph must show a front view of your entire face with your eyes open. It must show the area from the top of your hair to the bottom of your chin. Your head should be between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches tall and should be centered in the photograph. Your eyes should be between 1 1/8 and 1 3/8 inches from the bottom of the photograph. Your photograph should show a natural and neutral expression.

Prescription eyeglasses are the only glasses allowed for a citizenship photograph. You should wear regular clothes, not a uniform. The photograph must be less than six months old.
