    • The state with the highest population density is New Jersey. New Jersey's population was 8,707,739 in 2009, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

    • New Hampshire is roughly the same size as New Jersey, but the population is 1,324,575 people. The population density is 137.8 people per square mile, almost 10 times less than the state of New Jersey.
