How Much RAM Can I Put in My EMachine?

Different EMachine models have different memory specifications.

Unfortunately, there's no universal memory type that works in all EMachine computers. Like other computers, the specific type of RAM required depends entirely on the exact model of the computer in question; therefore, two separate EMachine models will require different types of RAM.

SDRAM

Most modern computers require one of the many forms of Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (SDRAM). Although this narrows your search down significantly, there are many different types of SDRAM, such as Double Data Rate (DDR), DDR2 and DDR3 Dual In-line Memory Modules (DIMMs).

Compatibility Issues

Because each EMachine model requires a specific type of RAM, using the wrong kind could lead to computer problems. If the incompatible RAM even physically fits into the memory module slots, you likely won't even be able to power on your computer with incompatible RAM installed.

Finding the Right Type

Most computer manufacturers, EMachines included, have a section in each computers user's manual regarding memory. This section will tell you the exact type compatible with your machine, as well as how much you can install. The manual may even give you instructions on installing the RAM in your system. Alternately, see the resources for websites that will help you determine RAM needs based on your computer's specific model.
