Vegetables can be consumed with no limit on the vegetarian Ornish diet.

The vegetarian Ornish diet is a lifestyle plan devised by Dr. Dean Ornish. This diet is designed to help you reach and maintain an ideal weight, as well as optimum heart health.

  1. Diet

    • This diet recommends eating as many fruits, vegetables, grains and beans as you want. Nonfat dairy products should be eaten in moderation and meats, oils, sugars and full-fat dairy products should be eliminated.

    Commercial Foods

    • Any commercially prepared foods included in this diet should have 2 grams of fat or less. If sugar is one of the main ingredients in the dish, it should be avoided completely.

    Fat

    • By following the diet's guidelines, you should naturally achieve a diet with less than 10 percent of your daily calories coming from fat.

    Exercise

    • Ornish's plan also recommends that you exercise for 30 minutes or more each day, or at least one hour, three times a week. In addition, you should actively participate in some type of stress management, such as yoga or meditation.
