Using artificial tree snow to decorate a house or tree can bring a little holiday spirit no matter what time of year. The snow, or "flocking", can also protect an artificial tree from burning. Does this Spark an idea?

Homemade Snow

Using supplies like sugar, talcum powder and glue, a person can make their own artificial tree snow. Dusting windows or tree branches with the mix of sugar and talcum powder can create a sparkling effect that looks like snow.
Application

Companies make a range of items for applying artificial snow. These include spray guns attached to a an artificial tree that "blows" the snow over the tree down into a box. The snow then travels through a tube in the middle of the tree to the top and the process is repeated.

Other Uses

In 2003, some inventors patented ideas to use artificial snow as an insecticide by rapidly cooling surfaces and the bugs themselves. Japanese inventors also patented the idea to use artificial snow as a testing material for snow tires.
