Information on the Cube Psychological Test

The cube test, also called the cube game, is a psychological test of unknown origin. Participants are asked to imagine a cube. Details about the image are then elicited, and conclusions are drawn about an individual's personality traits based on their response to the cube scenario.

  1. Features

    • The cube test is not a diagnostic test nor is it aimed at revealing negative traits. As generally presented, it is a tool for self-knowledge.

    Method

    • The cube test can be taken alone or as part of a group. The subject imagines a cube in a desert. The cube is then described in terms of its characteristics and how these make the subject feel. Further elements are added, including a ladder, a horse, a storm and a flower. These are described in the same way as the cube. Once all the required details are elicited their symbolism is explored.

    Theories/Speculation

    • The true history of the cube test is unknown, but some speculate it has Sufi origins. It is theorized that the cube represents the subject, while the ladder is theorized to represent the subject's friends, the horse a lover or ideal lover and the storm some obstacle they face. The flower represents children or the desire for them.
