Photo Optimizing Software
Large images can make a web page take a long time to load. This is a problem since people don't want to wait for content to load. The solution is photo optimizing software, which makes a photo file smaller and thus, the web page containing it load faster.

Why Optimize
-
Photo and image files are more data-intensive than text. A high resolution image is needed if you want to print it at photo quality, but the resolution of a computer screen is much lower than the resolution of photo printers. An image can be optimized for the screen, reducing the resolution and thus making the file smaller.
What Optimization Does
-
The trick is to reduce the file size without making a noticeable difference in the quality of the image. The file size is related to the image size, in that a larger image will have a larger file size, but optimizing a file will not alter the size of the image. Optimizing software sometimes also resizes an image, since this is a related function. Optimizing images is also known as image crunching.

Photo Optimizing Software Titles
-
Image-editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop or PaintShop Photo Pro, contain image optimization features. There are also stand-alone applications such as SuperGIF, RIOT and PNGOUT. If you need to optimize a number of images at once, use a batch optimizer such as PNG Gauntlet or VSO Image Resizer. You can also find online apps that will optimize images, such as Smush.it! and Online Image Optimizer at Dynamic Drive.
