Customs Brokerage Certification

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency licenses and regulates private individuals and associations who work as Customs brokers. While the CBP does not have a broker certification requirement, many private training providers offer certification programs that indicate the holder has completed optional Customs Brokerage training.

  1. Function

    • Customs brokerage certification programs help those working in the import and export field to expand their knowledge of the industry. Certification also lends to credibility by providing the holder with a formal professional designation.

    Features

    • Certification course content and features vary by provider. However, most certification programs culminate with a examination reviewing the covered materials that the applicant must pass.

    Warning

    • Since customs brokerage certification is completely optional, there is no governing body over the training providers that offer certification courses. Certification costs and value vary, and applicants should thoroughly research providers before paying any certification program fees.
