GMC Truck Safety

In 2008, 5,025 occupants of pickup trucks died in traffic accidents according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Crash test scores indicate how safe a vehicle is when you are considering how to protect yourself on the road.

  1. Tests and Ratings

    • IIHS testing looks at front, side, rollover and rear crashes. Trucks receive a crash rating from best to worst of "good," "acceptable," "marginal" or "poor" for each crash scenario.

    Canyon

    • The 2010 GMC Canyon Crew Cab ranked fifth among other small pickups by the IIHS. It failed to record a good grade in any crash test. The Canyon graded acceptable for frontal crashes, poor for side crashes and marginal for rollover and rear crashes.

    Sierra

    • For large pickup testing only frontal, side and rear crash tests were scored. The 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 ranked fourth among other large pick ups. It received a good rating for frontal crashes and acceptable for side and rear crashes.
