How to Buy Cheap DDR2 RAM

Getting cheap DDR2 is easy.

Plenty of options exist for buying cheap double-data rate 2 (DDR2) random access memory (RAM), especially now that it is no longer the newest and fastest RAM type. The arrival of DDR3 RAM has reduced the price of DDR2, which was introduced in 2003.

eBay

So many sellers list RAM on eBay that it causes lower prices, even on new, brand-name RAM. Other sellers, who deal with used computers, "harvest" RAM from them and sell it on eBay. Do not be alarmed, because RAM almost never goes bad, even if the motherboard it came from failed. In most cases, non-functioning RAM is caused by a compatibility issue. For this reason, be careful not to buy high-density, ECC, or registered RAM, as they can cause compatibility problems.

Used Computer Store

Sometimes used computer stores sell RAM for lower prices. Again, while the RAM may have been previously used, it rarely goes bad.

Online Stores

Online stores such as TigerDirect and NewEgg sell DDR2 RAM at lower prices than most "brick and mortar" computer or electronics stores. These websites run frequent sales, and they make it easy to find compatible RAM. NewEgg's site even offers users a tool for finding compatible RAM based on their computer make and type.
