What Is Windows XP OEM Version?
Microsoft XP OEM version is a copy of Windows XP that comes with certain computers or packaged individually from Microsoft resellers. It is a genuine copy of XP with the same features as the retail version. However, it has a different installation method and a few restrictions.
-
Installation
-
The Windows XP OEM version requires installation on a freshly formatted hard drive. The entire hard drive must be formatted and free of files before this version will install. If any issues occur with the operating system, you 'll need to completely remove it from your hard drive and reinstall it.
Upgrade Ability
-
Full OEM is a version of Windows XP OEM that you can install on any new PC. Full OEM isn't upgradeable. Thus, if you want to upgrade you'll need to purchase the full version of the operating system you want to switch to--and not an upgrade version.
-
Reinstallation
-
Your computer may have been preinstalled with Windows XP OEM. This copy is bound to the BIOS of a specific machine. Thus, you can't uninstall it from one computer and reinstall it on another. You can't install the OEM version onto a second computer, even after you have erased the hard drive of the first computer.
Support
-
Microsoft doesn't support the OEM version of Windows XP. If you require any support concerning the OEM version, Microsoft will refer you to the reseller.
