A Substitute for Plymouth Foxy Yarn

Foxy was a knitting and crocheting yarn produced by the Collection Francaise brand under the supervision of the Plymouth Yarn Company based in Bristol, Pennsylvania.

Identification

The Yarndex Knitting and Crochet Directory lists Foxy as a super-bulky weight eyelash yarn made from acrylic fibers. The yarn was produced in shades of white, brown and black with other colors mixed in. Plymouth does not list Foxy as a currently produced yarn.

Potential Substitutes

The furry feel of Plymouth's Foxy yarn is also in Plymouth's Color-lash, Lion Brand Yarn's Fun Fur and Festive Fur and Bernat Boa.

Considerations

When choosing a substitute for Plymouth's Foxy yarn, consider the weight of the yarn and the effect achieved. Other super-bulky weight yarns won't provide the same feathery, furry feel to the finished project while a lighter weight eyelash yarn will.

Solution

If the yarn you choose to substitute is lighter in weight than Plymouth's Foxy, adjust your tension or gauge accordingly. You may also knit another eyelash yarn held together with a strand of plain yarn as one strand to achieve a thicker piece of knitting.
