Mattress wadding is a component of the mattress.

Everyone has an individual preference for how they like their mattress, be it soft or hard, downy or foamy. Although mattresses are manufactured in varied textures, thicknesses, and materials, the basic anatomy of a mattress remains the same.

Mattress wadding is the material used to make mattresses soft. Merriam Webster's Online Dictionary defines wadding as a "sheet of short loose fibers used for stuffing or padding." Mattress wadding can also be described as mattress stuffing, batting, or padding.

Location

Mattress wadding is placed on the top and bottom planes of mattresses to provide a barrier of soft cushion between the mattress' internal contents and the person sleeping on the mattress.

Considerations

The more wadding a mattress has, the softer it is. Mattresses with less wadding are firmer.
