Can Aging Cause Frequent Urination?

Urinary Tract Infections in Women

Frequent urination in women is most commonly caused by a urinary tract infection, or UTI. UTIs are not necessarily linked to aging and may be present in women of any age. UTIs are treated with antibiotics and over-the-counter pain relievers.

Common Causes

Frequent urination in both men and women can be linked to more benign issues, such as medication side effects or anxiety. It can also be caused by more serious disorders that require professional attention, such as diabetes, overactive bladder syndrome or bladder stones. Because many different things cause frequent urination, it is important to see your doctor shortly after the onset of symptoms.
