Linksys Wireless Network Problems

Linksys is the name of a series of wireless routers sold by Cisco. The routers provide wireless Internet service either on a home-office scale or for a wireless network.

  1. Access Denied When Downloading Files in Windows 7

    • The most common problem found with Linksys wireless routers involves receiving an "Access Denied" message when downloading files in Windows 7. To solve this problem, click on "Properties" under the "Open" menu, then click on "Advanced." If you don't want your downloaded files to be encrypted, uncheck "Encrypt contents to secure data" and try your download again.

    Intermittent Wireless Signal

    • Another common problem involving Linksys wireless routers is an intermittent wireless signal. To fix this problem, power off your wireless adapter and connect your computer to the Internet via an Ethernet cable. Access the router's web-based setup page and click "wireless." Under "Configuration View" click "Manual" and make sure your network name is listed correctly. Select a channel width of 20 mHz, and select a channel. Save your settings, and turn off the router and your computer. After 30 seconds, turn them on again. The stability of the wireless signal should have improved.

One Computer on a Home Network Can't Connect to the Internet

    • Sometimes a single computer on a home network has problems connecting to the Internet with a Linksys wireless router. Check to make sure you are using the right wireless key or password. If you are, then repair your Internet connection on Windows. Right-click on the wireless network connection in your system tray on the bottom-right of your screen and select "Repair."
