Lexmark produces its own line of ink cartridges.

Lexmark is an international corporation centered in Lexington, Kentucky, that offers printing and imaging services. The company has its roots in the early 1990's and employs thousands of workers worldwide.

  1. History

    • Lexmark was originally a branch of IBM's print sector, until splitting off in 1991. After the split, Lexmark kept the IBM name until becoming fully independent in 1994. In 1995, the company became publicly traded.

    Products

    • Lexmark manufactures a variety of printers and accessories. Lexmark was the first company to sell a sub-$100 printer. As of August 2010, they sell inkjet, dot matrix and monochrome printers, as well as scanners and other imaging technology.

    Strategy

    • In Lexmark's early years, the corporation firmly planted itself as an affordable inkjet printer maker. In the late 2000's, Lexmark embarked on a mission to shed its earlier image, as it doubled its market-share of over-$100 inkjet printers from 5% to 10% in 2009. As it moved away from low cost printers, Lexmark employed a strategy of producing touch-screen and Wi-Fi enabled printers, and offering more customization features.
