Medical transcriptionist training involves becoming proficient in interpreting a medical professional's dictated word and applying it to paper to form a legal medical document. A medical transcriptionist is also referred to as a medical language specialist.

Course of Study

M-Tec medical transcription training focuses on learning about the human body and its functions, as well as becoming knowledgeable in language skills and in forming a medical document with those skills.

Costs

The M-Tec medical transcription Tier I-Premier program costs $3,975, as of August 2010. This includes the cost of registration at $125, tuition of $2,679 and $1,171 in books and course materials.

Duration

This is a 940-hour course that leads to a diploma. The course is taken entirely online with support from M-Tec staff members. It takes approximately one year to complete the medical transcription training course, working about 25 hours a week.

Job Outlook

M-Tec assists students with job placement. A medical transcriptionist's wages are production-based, so salary can vary. According to PayScale, medical transcriptionists average $24,857 to $36,329 a year, as of August 2010.
