Pilgrims are a traditional Thanksgiving decoration.

Turkeys, pilgrims and Native Americans are traditional decorative characters associated with Thanksgiving. Craft pilgrims for your holiday table from cardboard tubing found inside toilet tissue or paper towel rolls. Children as well as adults will enjoy creating these pilgrims.

  1. Paint

    • Paint faces on the cardboard tubes with flesh-colored acrylic paint. Detail the hair, eyes, nose and mouth with a fine number 0 or 1 paint brush. Paint gray, brown and black clothing for male and female pilgrims. Add white paper caps for the ladies and a brown paper hat with a foil buckle for the men.

    Paper

    • Cut out strips of paper for the face, shirt or blouse, skirt or pants of the pilgrim characters. Glue the strips of paper to the cardboard tube. Make head coverings for girl pilgrims and hats for the boys. Yarn can be glued to the tube for the hair. Eyes, nose and mouths can be painted or drawn on with colored markers.

    Felt

    • Cut out pieces of felt for the head and clothing of the pilgrims. Glue the cloth to the tube with craft glue. Add yarn hair, wiggle eyes, pom-pom nose and hand-fashioned hats to the heads of the pilgrim characters. The pilgrims may hold miniature fruit or vegetables pieces in their felt hands.
