Chinese herbs have been used to treat various ailments for thousands of years.

The Chinese have been using herbs medicinally for over 2,000 years. Traditionally, herbs were made into a long-brewing, bad-tasting tea or sticky honey-bound pills. Today, modern advances have made most available in easy-to-swallow capsules. China is home to many hospitals which specialize in herbal training for doctors.

  1. Ginseng

    • Among the most well-known of the Chinese herbs, ginseng is believed to control blood-pressure, calm the nerves, supply energy, control blood sugar and improve oxygen use in the body. It can be consumed in tablet form or brewed in tea.

    Astragalus

    • Astragalus is the most commonly used herb in Chinese medicine, as it is a treatment for AIDS, colitis, senility and hepatitis. The herb is also thought to regulate white blood cells in cancer patients and bolster the immune system.

    Ginger

    • Ginger is often used to treat stomach ailments, as it aids with digestion and calms nausea and morning sickness. It is now well-known as a cooking spice. It can be consumed in teas, but it is also available as a capsule.
