Stock Market Trading Training

Securities dealers buy, sell and trade securities on stock exchanges.

Stock market trader training involves performing on the job duties as well as successfully completing various securities licensing exams. The amount of time it takes to complete stock market trader training varies across brokerage houses, but the minimum is 4 months.

  1. Education

    • A college degree is not necessary for stock market trading training, but it should be a consideration if you want to move ahead in the industry. Commonly held degrees for stock brokers include finance, economics and business.

    Work

    • Begin your stock market trading training by working for a Financial Industry Regulation Authority, or FINRA, registered investment company. You must work for a FINRA registered brokerage house for minimum of 4 months before you can qualify to sit for the General Securities Representative exam, or the Series 7.

    Testing

    • You must pass the Series 7 exam with a 70 percent score or higher to work as a stock broker/dealer. Most states require that you also pass the Uniform Securities Agent State Law exam, or the Series 63. A passing score for the Series 63 is 72 percent or higher.
