How to Compare Women's Road Bikes
Women are more serious about road biking now than ever, and bike companies are responding with more available products. All the major bike manufacturers now make specific road bicycles designed to fit women's body geometry.

Differences From Men's Bikes
-
The average woman has a shorter torso and arms, and longer legs than a man of the same height. She has more-narrow shoulders, wider hips, and smaller hands and feet. Bike companies make women's bikes with smaller handlebars, brakes and shifters. The top tube tends to be shorter and the seat tube a bit more upright.
Frame Materials
-
Women's bikes tend to be more lightweight than men's bikes. They are often made of aluminum or carbon, the most lightweight frame material.
-
Saddles
-
Women should generally choose a slightly wider saddle to accommodate your larger hip bones. The saddle should rest comfortably between your sit bones.
Price Range
-
It is difficult to find a good road bike for less than $500, and you can spend upwards of several thousand. After you buy your bike and ride it for awhile, you can upgrade specific components to better suit your individual needs.
