Nero 7 and Nero 8 are different versions of a CD, DVD, and Blu-ray burning software that is used for Windows operating systems. The versions of Nero share many features, but there is a variety of differences between the two.

Nero 7 was first released (version 7.0.1.2) on October 31, 2005. The first version of Nero 8 (8.0.3.0) was released illegally, via BitTorrent, on September 8, 2007. The official release (8.1.1.0) occurred on October 1, 2007.

Nero 7 is compatible with Windows XP only. However, it does have limited functionality with Windows Vista. Nero 8 is fully compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista. Both versions of Nero have relatively equal playback functions, with Nero 8 having the slight edge in being able to support more file formats. Nero 8 and Nero 7 both have nearly identical multimedia tool features. The only difference is that Nero 8 is able to create 5.1 surround sound mixes. Both versions are equal in backup and recovery features as well, with another slight edge to version 8, which has the ability to recover damaged or deleted files from various devices. For burning and copying features, both versions have the same capabilities, although Nero 7 has limited functionality in some areas.

Nero 7 and Nero 8 are essentially obsolete now, since there have been further releases of Nero that have surpassed the features that they are able to provide. Nero 9, Nero 9 Essentials, and Nero Multimedia 10 are the successors of Nero 7 and 8.
