Can I Receive Faxes Using a DSL Modem?
Although DSL Internet uses a traditional phone line to send and receive data, you cannot use a DSL modem to send a fax. You can, however, use a DSL line to send faxes over the Internet.
-
Function
-
Sending faxes requires a dial tone. Since DSL and cable connections do not dial into a server, you cannot fax with any broadband service.
Alternatives
-
You can use your DSL connection to send faxes via Internet services that allow you to upload files and have the faxing service fax the file for you. In addition, some Voice over IP (VoIP) services allow you to send faxes.

Tip
-
DSL modems allow you to use your traditional land-line and still connect to the Internet. You can hook up a fax and DSL modem to the same phone connection, but faxing may interfere with your DSL line's quality.
