Can I Send a Text Message to a Phone From a Yahoo! Mail Account?

Text messages can be sent to any cell phone using your Yahoo email account.

According to a 2005 survey conducted by Pew Research, 134 million adults in America own cell phones. If you are one of the few who doesn't own a cell phone or just wants to avoid additional texting fees, you can use your Yahoo email account to send a text message to a mobile phone user.

Text Via Yahoo Mail

Compose a new message in Yahoo mail. Keep in mind the message will be viewed on a small screen and should be brief. The address of the recipient consists of the 10-digit mobile phone number, followed by the text domain name of the recipient's service provider.

Text Via Yahoo Messenger

If you do not know the service provider of the recipient, you may use Yahoo Messenger and your existing Yahoo User ID to send a text message. Yahoo Messenger is free to download and is compatible with mobile service provided by Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, Nextel, T-Mobile, Virgin Mobile and Alltel.

Cost

Sending a text message through Yahoo mail or Yahoo Messenger is free to the sender. Recipients will be billed applicable text messaging fees by their cell phone service provider.
