Internet Speed Definition
Internet speed is an important aspect of an individual's computer experience. Depending on the type of connection, websites can take up to one minute or just a few seconds to load.
-
Definition
-
Internet speed is defined as the type of connection linked to the computer as well as the amount of time taken to load a website page.
Types
-
There are two main types of connections that determine Internet speed: dial-up and broadband. Dial-up runs on a 56K modem, while broadband comprises DSL, cable modem and T1 service.
-
Features
-
The 56K dial-up modem features the slowest Internet speeds, and it has become nearly obsolete. DSL and cable modem, the most common high-speed broadband services, feature quick-loading website pages. T1 service, however, is faster than both DSL and cable modem, and is the common service for universities. T1 features extremely quick file transfers over a wireless network, making documents easily accessible.
