What Is the Difference Between RGB & VGA Cable?

RGB (red, green, blue) and VGA (video graphics array) cables are used in the computer industry, primarily with computer monitors. RGB still exists in several forms as of August 2010, while VGA is becoming extinct due to superior technology, such as HDMI.

RGB

RGB is a color concept that is used in a variety of mediums, including monitor cables, photography and processing and editing computer images. RGB cables are specifically used with monitors to display an endless amount of color combinations on the screen.

VGA

VGA cables are used as video display standards that control the resolution, color depth and transmission of a monitor. VGA cables are connected to the VGA port on a computer and to the VGA port on a monitor. The cables are used to send information to and from monitors and graphics cards in a computer.

Function

VGA cables were developed in the late 1980s for use specifically with IBM's line of computers and is being surpassed by other technology. The concept of RGB was around long before modern computers were invented, and RGB cables are still used in many types of monitors, including CRT, LCD and LED.
