A digitizer tablet, also referred to as a graphics tablet and drawing tablet, is a handheld computer device with sketching capacities.
Function

Digitizer tablets can be used for handwriting signatures and hand-drawing graphics and images. Digitizer tablets can also be utilized for digitizing, or capturing object line changes on the screen. This can be done by securing a copy of the image to the screen and tracing its lines. Users can input information on the digitizer tablet via a stylus, or drawing apparatus resembling a pen designed to interact with touch screen devices. Due to their sensitivity, digitizer tablets are often used to create computer graphics.

The precursor to the digitizer tablet, the Telautograph is considered to be the first electronic handwriting device. It was invented by Elisha Gray in 1888.
