Credit counselors and consumers work as a team to improve the consumer's financial situation and establish financial success goals. To provide these types of services, credit counselors need specialized training.
Features

The training includes the following: credit, debt and personal finance concepts; customer interactions; telephone interactions; credit analysis, risk evaluation and credit rating methodologies; and a written exam. The entire certification course takes 10 weeks to complete.

Functions

NFCC certification shows that the counselor has completed specialized comprehensive training as a credit counselor. NFCC-accredited counselors meet the high standards set by the organization to provide quality education and assistance to consumers.
Options

There are some credit counselor training programs available through community colleges, but they are not certified by the NFCC.
