Computers house several different file types.

Online file formats can seem confusing. With types such as .jpeg, tif and .doc, as well as countless others, trying to understand the differences among the files can be a daunting task. PAF files are one example of a lesser-known file type; armed with a little knowledge, however, makes understanding these files easy.

  1. Meaning

    • A PAF file is a Portable Application Installer file. You must store these files on a flash or USB drive and install them to run via the drive.

    Operating System

    • You install PAF files on a portable PC, or personal computer, running the Windows application. The installation includes a variety of software components such as Firefox Portable, OpenOffice.org Portable and 7-Zip Portable. It also hosts additional utilities and programs, including games.

    Timing

    • A PAF file often gets installed onto a computer during the initial setup process. This allows for troubleshooting if the associated programming does not function with the operating system.
