Buying extra RAM for your computer is easy and relatively inexpensive.

One of the most efficient ways of speeding up your computer's performance is to buy and install extra RAM. In general, the more RAM that you have installed on your system, the more quickly it will be able to access and process programs.

Determining RAM

Before you buy your RAM, you need to determine the kind of RAM your system will take. One way to do this is to check with the documentation that came with your system. If you do not have the documentation, you can go online and determine what computer model you have and check out the specifications. Those specifications will usually tell you what kind of RAM is installed on your computer.

Brick-and-Mortar

Brick-and-mortar stores provide you with the ability to immediately purchase your extra RAM, which is an advantage for many people. The disadvantage, however, is that if you do not know what kind of RAM you need, the salesperson might not be qualified to give you the right RAM module.

Online

The advantage to buying your extra RAM through an online store (such as NewEgg or BestBuy) is that you can put your computer model in and it will provide you with the proper RAM to use. The disadvantage, however, is that you will have to wait for the product to be shipped through either the postal service or through a package carrier.
