Those who keep a regular written diary may eventually consider moving to one they can update on their desktop or laptop computers. Users have several versions of diary software to choose from, each equipped with different features and interfaces.

Diary or journal software allows users to customize and sort their entries however they like. Users can select different fonts or backgrounds and store entries in folders divided by day, week, month or year. Many versions allow users to conduct searches to find entries containing specific words or phrases.

Types

The simplest and most affordable diary programs provide users with the ability to write and sort entries but little else. More advanced programs come with such added features as personal organizers or the ability to record the user's voice and either save the file as part of an audio diary or transcribe it into hard copy.
