How to Compare Mini Laptop Computers

How to Compare Mini Laptop Computers thumbnail
A netbook is a mini laptop meant for portable Internet connectivity.

Mini laptop computers, also commonly known as netbooks, are ultra portable notebooks. These mini laptops are popular amongst students and other laptop users who favor their portability and low price compared to traditional sized notebooks.

  1. Size

    • Netbook laptops are classified by the Best Buy store website as ultra-portable laptops that measure 12.1 inches and under, diagonally. When choosing a netbook, consider how much you plan to work on it each day. Smaller netbooks feature smaller screens and keyboards and can be uncomfortable to work on for long periods of time.

    Connectivity

    • Most netbooks come with a wired Ethernet port. Some netbooks offer 802.11 wireless networking while others offer mobile broadband 3G for Internet connectivity. If you anticipate working a lot without wireless access, mobile 3G broadband is a good choice, otherwise, 802.11 wireless networking should be sufficient.

    Drives

    • Netbooks can come with either a traditional magnetic hard disk drive or a solid state drive. If you plan on being very mobile with your netbook, a solid state drive may be your best option as they have no moving parts and are very portable.
