Prada was started in Milan, Italy, in 1913 by Mario and Martino Prada. They had success making steamer trunks and handbags. Mario's daughter Luisia took over the company and ran it for 20 years. When Luisia's daughter Muccia took over, Prada became an international success in 1979 with the release of Muccia's line of backpacks and totes.

Prada still is true to the original products started by Mario and Martino Prada. The company is known for luggage, handbags and all leather products, including belts and wallets. Prada also developed clothing lines for both men and women and also has jewelry.
