Nuclear QA QC Training

Nuclear QA QC Training thumbnail
Nuclear security requires effective public safety policies.

In a nuclear quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) training course, students experience firsthand the tools and techniques that organizations use to examine contamination effects on humans, facilities and the environment.

  1. Education

    • A bachelor's or master's degree in nuclear science can be an asset for candidates in this occupation, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). However, employers prefer nuclear QA QC specialists with a doctorate degree for senior roles.

    Training Features

    • A 2010 BLS survey reveals that a new nuclear QA QC specialist usually receives on-the-job training. Most employees require one or two years of training and working under the direction of skillful professionals, reports O*Net OnLine. Nuclear QA QC specialists learn how to compute safe radiation exposure times for staff, conduct decontamination activities and provide quality control guidance to personnel.

    Tools

    • According to O*Net OnLine, attendees in nuclear QA QC training sessions acquaint themselves with the tools of the trade. These include dose rate monitors, sodium iodide (NaI) scintillation detectors, thermoluminescent dosimeters and pressure demand respirators.
