How to Compare Massage Tables

How to Compare Massage Tables thumbnail
Buying the right massage table is important for a massage therapist.

Massage therapists who are considering choices for a new massage table have many options to consider. Massage tables tend to be expensive, so doing research ahead of time is important.

  1. Types

    • Massage tables come in many forms. Some tables are folding, while others are designed to be stationary. Massage tables that can be used for Shiatsu sometimes have a removable top that can be used on the floor. Some massage tables can also be used for body treatments---these often have an adjustable backrest or arm rests. What is best for each massage therapist will vary.

    Considerations

    • Think about what the table will be used for. If there is any chance that the table will be used for massage in the home as well as the office or elsewhere, a portable table is a must. Those who practice a range of massage modalities will need a versatile table, such as one with removable padding or one that can be adjusted. Also consider the comfort of the massage client. For instance, some tables are less expensive but have less padding or fewer features.

    Compare Cost

    • There are many places to purchase massage tables. Massage schools often sell tables, as do many catalogs and websites. Be cautious about buying a used table, however, as it may no longer be under warranty. If the table does come with a warranty, make sure to fill out any paperwork necessary in the event that there's a problem with the table. Registering the table is also a good idea, as the manufacturer will be able to notify the table owner in the event of a recall.

    Try Different Tables

    • If possible, try out different brands and models of tables to get an idea of quality and what table best fits the needs of the massage therapy practice.
