The Average Salary of a Claims Adjuster

Insurance claims adjusters work in a broad variety of businesses and are responsible for handling individual cases and claims for their companies. The average salary of these professionals varies dependent on the company or industry the adjuster works for, but in most cases provides for an annual salary beyond the $50,000 mark.

Average Salary

According to the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, the top 50 percent of insurance claims adjusters earned an average of $57,130 a year. This estimate, of course, is derived from a nationwide average and can vary from situation to situation.

Salary Range

While the average salary of an insurance claims adjuster falls around the upper $50,000-a-year mark, the top earners in the profession earn significantly more. In 2009, earners in the top 10 percent of the industry made an average of $85,810 a year. The bottom 10 percent, meanwhile, made around $34,820 a year.

In addition to salary, claims adjusters often receive other perks that go along with their jobs. This includes technological devices such as laptops or smartphones and a company vehicle or a reimbursement program for those who use their own vehicle in job-related activities.
