Seal Coat Training

Seal Coat Training thumbnail
Seal coat procedures demand manual dexterity.

Seal coat is a mixture of emulsified asphalt, water and mineral fillers. Seal coats are applied directly to the surface of an asphalt pavement. A training seminar helps a seal coat specialist understand machine spraying procedures.

  1. Degree Requirements

    • A high school diploma or GED certificate is usually necessary for a seal coat specialist position, according to a 2010 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) survey. Employers prefer job applicants with practical experience and a two-year certificate from an apprenticeship program.

    Focus

    • According to the BLS, a novice seal coat specialist receives practical training after being hired. Most employees undergo less than one year of experience and training with proficient professionals, reports O*Net OnLine. During training, seal coat specialists learn how to determine paint flow and viscosity, weigh chemicals and coatings and operate machinery using levers or buttons.

    Tools

    • According to O*Net OnLine, a participant in a seal coat training program gains acumen with tools and equipment such as viscometers, coating machinery, paint mixing equipment and rustproofing machinery.
