Similar to other organizations, hospitals need human resources (HR) managers to manage the complexities of employee relations, compensation and government compliance. These professionals serve as advisers to doctors, nurses and other medical staff on HR matters that affect the daily functions and personal lives of hospital employees.

    • Hospital HR managers are responsible for handling employee recruitment, placement and retention; hospital job audits; employee disputes and complaints; and the administration of government labor rules. In addition, HR managers must analyze their hospital's pay structure to ensure that employees are compensated fairly according to their position and experience level.

    Education and Skills

    • Educational requirements for hospitals vary. However, employers usually require at least a high school diploma or bachelor's degree in HR, business administration or a related discipline. Strong interpersonal, leadership and project management skills are helpful on the job.

    Salary

    • The average salary for HR managers working in U.S. hospitals ranged between $45,844 and $72,880 according to an August 2010 PayScale salary report.
