How to Compare Waffle Irons

How to Compare Waffle Irons thumbnail
Comparing waffle irons can be a tasty task.

Waffles, traditionally breakfast food, can, with the addition of fresh fruit, whipped creamed or other tasty additives, be dessert too. What is mixed together is only half of the success factor in waffle making. The other half is in the waffle maker. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Basic Types

    • Waffle irons are usually made from metal parts and use an electronic cord that plugs into an outlet. These generally create one large waffle with four square sections that easily break apart, making four square waffles. Smaller waffle irons create two square waffles. Belgian waffles are usually round and thick and basic Belgian waffle makers are designed to make only one at a time.

    Features

    • Most waffle irons have a non-stick finish for easy cleaning. Some include temperature control features that shut off the iron automatically when waffles are done. Cast iron stove-top models require the user to adjust the stove's heat for even cooking. Ones with rotating stands allow the user to turn the waffle during cooking for even browning.

    Pricing

    • Waffle irons with basic features range around $30. Professional-type units that feature unique, sophisticated features like fun shapes (i.e., Mickey Mouse, hearts and more), cool-touch handles and other automated gadgetry (i.e., lights, buzzers and more), range to around $200.
