Types
-
Two types of photo-editing software exist: commercial and free. Commercial software costs a fee and is usually for professional situations. You find commercial software, such as Adobe Photoshop, in places such as advertising agencies, design firms and learning institutions. Free software is available online and generally not for professional use. Casual computer users and non-professional photographers often use free software. Photoscape is an example of free photo editing software.

Features
-
Features are what separate commercial and free photo-adjusting software. Commercial software usually offers more features than free software. Paid software often has tools for cloning, airbrushing, cropping, drawing and tracing. Free software usually focuses on basic features for simple photo-editing tasks. Free photo-editing software is good for tasks such as cropping, removing red eye, rotating photos and adding text. GIMP is an exception to the rule. The software is free, and tries to emulate all of the features of Photoshop.
