Definition of VLC Player Post-Processing

Post-processing is a feature in the VLC Player that can be used to make video clearer and less "blocky." It is most effective when used with low-quality video.

Function

Post-processing can reduce the pixelation of video that was encoded at a low-bitrate. It smooths over the jagged edges, creating a picture that some consider to be cleaner and more defined.

Limitations

While post-processing in the VLC Player can reduce pixelation and give the appearance of a crisper, cleaner video, it does come at a price. While edge lines in the video make appear less blocky, the rest of the video will lose some detail, as it is smoothed out by the effect.

Types

Post-processing can be found in the "Video" menu of the VLC Player. There are six numbered levels of post-processing, with the higher numbers meaning a higher degree of processing.
