Fat pushing against the skin causes cellulite. The stomach, upper legs and buttocks are common places for cellulite. While cellulite makes the skin appear lumpy and dimpled, it is not harmful. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Liposuction

    • Liposuction uses suction to remove excess fat from a specific spot on the body.

    Cellulite and Liposuction

    • Liposuction targets fat far below the skin. Cellulite is close to the surface of the skin where it is risky to use liposuction. The tough tissue that encases and divides the cellulite makes it difficult to perform liposuction in this area. According to MayoClinic.com, liposuction "won't remove cellulite and it may make the cellulite appear worse."

    Cellulite Treatments

    • Losing weight can reduce the appearance of cellulite. It will not, however, make cellulite disappear completely. Lasers and radiofrequency systems are promising treatments for cellulite. Both treatments require several appointments and the improvements in the appearance of cellulite may last up to six months.

    Preventing Cellulite

    • Although you cannot prevent cellulite, maintaining a healthy weight through diet and exercise will improve the appearance of your skin.
