Autocad Software for Students

Autocad Software for Students thumbnail
AutoCAD is a popular drafting software.

Autodesk, the maker of AutoCAD, provides the current version of this drafting software to qualifying students at discounted rates or even for free. This opportunity is offered worldwide and includes training and support.

  1. Qualifying for Software

    • Generally speaking, students must either be enrolled in an Autodesk-approved course or be at an educational institution that has AutoCAD. Courses do not need to be CAD specific, and a wide range of colleges qualify for student software.

    Getting the Software

    • There are two ways to obtain the student edition of AutoCAD. You can buy AutoCAD from your local educational reseller at a highly discounted rate. With this option, you will need to prove your student status to the vendor.

Alternatively, if your college is signed up to the Autodesk Education Community, then your tutors can invite you to join. This allows students to download the current version of AutoCAD--as well as other Autodesk software--for free.

    Limitations of the Software

    • Although the student AutoCAD software is fully enabled, there are limitations in its use. It must only be used for education purposes, not commercially. When printing a drawing, an educational watermark is added to the drawing that cannot be removed. Also, the student license for this software is of limited duration.
