Effective Sales Training

Sales training is an ongoing process.

Sales training is a continuous practice implemented within companies in an effort to maintain and increase sales. To accomplish this, however, the training provided must be effective.

  1. Objectives

    • Specific objectives such as increasing leads and closing rates serve as a foundation upon which companies build a sales training program. A thorough understanding of these objectives enables managers to gauge whether a sales training program is on target to successfully achieve the company's goals.

    Expectations

    • Managers must outline specific expectations for their employees during sales training. Conducting follow-up meetings to discuss the employee's progress ensures that he adheres to the principles and techniques outlined in the sales training session. A common technique championed in sales training involves writing down objectives before setting up sales calls and using these notes after the call to gauge if the employee met his objectives.

    Techniques

    • According to AllBusiness.com, role-playing is one of the most effective ways to teach salespeople how to sell. By acting out scenarios as both customers and sales representatives, sales team members view a sales call from both sides and can adjust their presentations accordingly.
