Can You Charge a Lumix Digital Camera With a Laptop?

Unfortunately, Panasonic Lumix digital cameras cannot be charged with a laptop.

The Panasonic Lumix line of cameras all have their own battery charger that has to be plugged into an electric outlet. There is no way to charge your camera through a laptop's USB ports.

Significance

You may find that your Panasonic Lumix camera battery dies in a situation where there is not an available power source. If the camera allowed you to plug it into a laptop, you could charge it through a USB port. However, none of the Panasonic Lumix cameras have this ability.

Power

The power from a laptop USB port provides only around 500 milliamps of power. That is not enough power to charge a large camera battery, which is why so few digital camera designs have ever attempted to include the USB charging feature.

Solution

Because USB charging would have to be included in the camera's original design, there is, unfortunately, no solution to this problem. If USB charging is a necessary feature for you, you will have to look for a different camera model that can charge through a USB port. However, because these cameras run on a smaller amount of power, your images may not have the same quality as those taken with your Panasonic Lumix.
